New Westminster Parking Meter Changes Go Into Effect October 1st 2009

September 3, 2009

Parking at a meter on a Sunday will no longer be free. Changes go into effect October 1st 2009.

It’s a shame really because I thought it was a really nice touch that shoppers were given a day of rest when it came to parking in Downtown New West on Sunday’s.

Oh well parking rates are still pretty affordable so I can’t really complain. Anyway, I walk to my shopping destinations so this isn’t going to hit my pocket book.

Somewhat disappointing, but inevitable I suppose. While the parking is definitely busy during the week, I’m usually in Vancouver all day Sunday so I don’t know how busy it is then. Are we just driving away already low traffic, or is there still high demand on Sundays? Regardless, I hope this doesn’t affect the local merchants too much.

Inevitable yes…I think with all of the new resident buildings reaching completion the city wants to capitalize on the extra traffic…whether that traffic turns into park cars we’ll have to see.
